Female hawk
rescued from I-95
After being evaluated by Dr. Edward Frankel of Honeybrook Animal Hospital, we determined that the young female Red-tailed Hawk would not recover from her injuries and would never fly again. It was a difficult decision to make, but we opted to humanely euthanize the hawk as we have to consider the animal's overall well being and did not wish to prolong its suffering.
We thank everyone who has been concerned about her. Even though this hawk could not have been saved, we are hopeful that the other Red-tailed Hawks, shown at left, will be released back into the wild after their rehabilitation is complete.
Please remember, we only accept the following types of injured and orphaned birds:
- game birds (wild turkey, quail, pheasant)
- raptors (hawks, owls and falcons)
- seabirds (loons, grebe)
- shore/wetland birds (gull, killdeer, coot, rail, woodcock)
- wading birds (herons, egrets and bitterns)
- waterfowl (ducks and geese)
If you have found one of the above listed birds, please place it in a cardboard box on a towel with a lid and ventilation holed ONLY if you can safely do so. Call us immediately at 215.779.0731.
Please be prepared to transport the animal. Please read the Important Notes section on the left for helpful information on working with Wildlife Rehabilitators.
Important notes
- Never e-mail a Rehabilitator about an injured or orphaned animal that you have found. Always call. Wildlife Rehabilitators are busy and do not check e-mail regularly.
- There is no charge for the services we provide. Please be aware that we do not receive any state or federal funding and rely on donations to operate.
- We often do not have the resources to come and pick up animals.
- We will not pick up an animal that has not been contained.
- Please listen to our answering machine and leave a message. The clinics listed to the right only accept certain species and will only return calls pertaining to those species.
- Make an appointment. Do not show up unannounced at a rehab clinic. We need to make preparations to accept the animal.
- Be patient. Wait to hear back from us. Remain with the animal if you cannot safely capture it. We are busy taking care of current patients. The Webbed Foot Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic will return your call within 1 hour, usually within 15 minutes.
